We're in Nevada!

About 30 minutes from Vegas.

LA: Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica Pier

We spent a few days looking around LA and discovered that its much nicer on TV and in the movies. The weather was nice and we got to see some famous places but I wouldn't want to live there. People are generally rude, the traffic is horrible, and almost everywhere we went was dirty and there was a lot of trash along the roads.
We went on a Warner Brothers studio tour that was fun but basically ruined the magic behind television and movies. I doubt I'll ever watch them the same again.
Today we're saying goodbye to Hollywood and moving on to Las Vegas!

Mohave

Driving on rt 40 into California makes me feel like I have set foot into a Road Runner cartoon with huge rocks perched on the top of mountains wAiting to be pushed, endless trains out of nowhere and mini dust tornadoes. Beep Beep!!!

We made it to California!

We're at The Grand Canyon

First view...

Standin' on a Corner

We were standin' on a corner in Winslow, Arizona.

Arizona!

Our first destination on this trip is the Grand Canyon. We've made it to the right state finally. We're in AZ!

The second pic could have been taken ANYWHERE in Arizona on I-40. It all looks the same!

Rio Grande

The Rio Grande is not so grande in Albuquerque but it was still neat to experience.

Music Again

We're spending the night in Clinton, Oklahoma, birthplace of Toby Keith. Not a "Red Solo Cup" anywhere around.

Today's sights

We passed through Carrie Underwoods hometown and a wind farm that just looked like huge metal aliens going on for miles. Very cool!!!!

Home of Woody Guthrie

We stopped for lunch in Okemah, Oklahoma. Home of Woody Guthrie, who is famous for "This Land is Your Land" which seems appropriate since we're on a journey to see this land which is ours. His 100th birthday was two days ago.

Something odd about Okemah is that the gas stations had big signs that said 100% Gas, no ethanol added. I'm going to have to look into that and see why it's a big deal because I'm curious.

Oklahoma!

We just crossed in to Oklahoma and a sign that said welcome to Cherokee Nation. I want to give a shout out to Emily, Elaine, and Parker! I wish you could be with us! Thank you Emily for taking care of Lucky!

Arkansas Nuclear One

Just saw a nuclear power plant off the side of I40 in Russellville Arkansas.

Day 3

On our way to Clinton Oklahoma!

Pyramid Arena

Very cool pyramid shaped building in Memphis. Too bad I can't take pics and drive at the same time.

Outta no where

One minute I am cruising down the interstate minding my own business and the next minute we are going over a bridge that turned out to be going over the MISSISSIPPI RIVER! I will have to be way more prepared for it on the way back.

Traffic in Arkansas.

Story of my life today while driving.

Morgan driving

Morgan drove yesterday from Asheville to Knoxville. She drove through a tunnel and in the rain. She has an uncanny knack at finding potholes. We are proud to say she did not miss driving over a single one!!!

McDonalds Again

Andrew is good at spotting the golden arches.

Day 1

Drove through the Pisgah National Forest and Knoxville on our way to Nashville. Drove to the Grand Ole Opry and found it plopped right in the same parking lot as a huge mall and IMAX.

Going West Day One

We started our trip West today!  We got to Nashville for our first stop Saturday evening then went to dinner at Ruby Tuesday.  After dinner we went to the Grand Ole Opry to take some pictures and stop by the Opry Shop.
